چکیده

The preferred method to verify the accuracy of a haemoglobinometer is the International Committee for Standardization in Haematology (ICSH) reference measurement of haemoglobin as haemiglobincyanide in whole blood, using a spectrophotometer which has been calibrated directly by the WHO/ICSH primary international reference standard or by means of a commercial standard that has been manufactured in accordance with the ICSH specifications and has been shown to be directly traceable to the primary standard. HemoCue is using the ICSH reference method to calibrate and quality control all haemoglobin instruments and all cuvette batches manufactured by the company.

Evaluation of the Haemoglobin Colour Scale and comparison with the HemoCue haemoglobin assay.

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the Haemoglobin Colour Scale developed by WHO for estimating haemoglobin concentration and to compare the results obtained using it and the HemoCue assay with those determined using a reference method, the Technicon H3 analyser. METHODS The Colour Scale and HemoCue assay were used to test 408 blood samples. Subsequently, Bland-Altman plots were determined and the proximi...

Evaluation of the validity of a rapid method for measuring high and low haemoglobin levels in whole blood donors.

BACKGROUND Haemoglobin screening methods need to be highly sensitive to detect both low and high haemoglobin levels and avoid unnecessary rejection of potential blood donors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of measurements by HemoCue in blood donors. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three hundred and fourteen randomly selected, prospective blood donors were studied. Single fingerstick...

An evaluation of the HemoCue for measuring haemoglobin in field studies in Jamaica.

The HemoCue system utilizes the principle of oxidation of haemoglobin to hemiglobin by sodium nitrite and the subsequent conversion of hemiglobin to hemiglobinazide by sodium azide. The reagents for these reactions are contained within a small disposable microcuvette of approximately 10 microliters in volume. A venous or capillary sample is introduced into the microcuvette by capillary action a...

Calibration of the HemoCue point-of-care analyser for determining haemoglobin concentration in a lizard and a fish

Haemoglobin concentration ([Hb]) is measured for a wide variety of animal studies. The use of point-of-care devices, such as the HemoCue, is becoming increasingly common because of their portability, relative ease of use and low cost. In this study, we aimed to determine whether the [Hb] of blue-tongued skink (Tiliqua nigrolutea) blood can be determined accurately using the HemoCue and whether ...

Evaluation of the HemoCue compared with the Coulter STKS for measurement of neonatal haemoglobin.

OBJECTIVE To compare the measurement of haemoglobin concentration ([Hb]) using the HemoCue haemoglobinometer with that using the Coulter STKS haemoglobinometer. DESIGN Thirty two EDTA samples were taken from neonates. [Hb] was measured in these samples using the HemoCue; the samples were then transferred to the haematology laboratory for [Hb] determination with the Coulter STKS. In addition, ...
